In 2021, Shriya found a job posting for Guest Relations Expert at Courtyard By Marriott Pune Hinjewadi in India. Without hesitation, she grasped this opportunity and began her “exciting first journey” in her career with Marriott.
Shriya was given the opportunity to gain cross-departmental exposure in the Front Desk Operations team, and that was where she found her true passion. Her knack for creating personalized, memorable guest experiences and her love for spending time with her fellow associates quickly made her a key member in the Front Office team. In just three years of service, she was recognized with various awards, including Marriott’s Associate of the Year 2022 and Executive of the Year 2023. She was also promoted to Assistant Front Desk Manager earlier this year.

Can you share a bit about your current job and how you got here?
I am currently the Assistant Front Desk Manager at Courtyard by Marriott Pune, Hinjewadi. Afters completing the course in aviation, I joined Marriott International as a Guest Relations Expert. I quickly realized it wasn’t my ideal fit, but my colleagues stepped in to help me navigate those early days. They guided me and offered encouragement when I wasn’t sure who to approach, making me feel like part of the Marriott family.
My technical and guest experience skills gave me an opportunity to have exposure in Front Desk Operations. On top of that, the support I got from my colleagues was invaluable and motivated me to find my place in Front Desk operations! Marriott noticed my passion and services by promoting me to Front Office Executive. The training imparted by the company has made me proficient to serve as the Assistant Front Desk Manager. I find myself interacting with all the guests staying with us and ensuring they have been provided with exceptional guest service. As much as I can, I try to make their stay memorable by cherishing their celebrations and milestones. I also love spending time with my associates, discussing over new processes and learnings–I truly believe in team success.
How would you describe your experience as a Marriott associate?
My experience as a Marriott associate has been incredibly rewarding! It’s definitely a challenge at times, but every hurdle makes the journey worthwhile. When I joined the team despite coming from a non-hotel background, most of my colleagues had hotel experience, but I never felt excluded. Everyone welcomed me with open arms, sharing their knowledge and support, which truly made me feel at home. Each step of the journey has allowed me to grow and enhance my skills, making every day at Marriott an exciting new adventure!
Share a moment when you felt you made an impact in Courtyard By Marriott Pune Hinjewadi.
I feel like I make an impact through staff training and development. I always strive to make new associates feel comfortable when they join our team. Watching them grow and succeed in their roles brings me a tremendous sense of accomplishment. Knowing that I played a part in their journey and contributed to a positive work environment is incredibly rewarding!
As an early-career talent, what is something you appreciate about Marriott?
I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many interns and management trainees. One key highlight I’ve observed is how Marriott treats them as the future leaders of our industry. They receive hands-on experience and mentorship that really fosters their growth. It’s inspiring to see how invested Marriott is in developing talent and ensuring that the next generation feels valued and empowered!
You’ve achieved so much in your three years at Marriott – what has been your proudest moment so far?
My proudest moment in my career so far has been receiving two promotions within the same hotel in just three years. It’s a testament to my hard work and dedication, and it reflects the incredible support and opportunities I’ve had at Marriott.
Any advice for incoming Marriott associates?
My advice for incoming Marriott associates is to stay true to yourself and trust the process. Embrace every opportunity to learn and grow, and don’t hesitate to ask questions. Building relationships with your colleagues is key, as we’re all here to support one another.
