When Ambition Meets Opportunity: How Luca Is Building His Dream Career Across Europe’s Most Iconic Hotels

Name: Luca T.
Position: Sales Manager
Hotel: St. Regis Rome

How many people can say they’re “living the dream” before even turning 30? Luca can. When he was just a 12-year-old boy growing up in northern Italy he already dreamed of a career in hospitality and today, at 26, he’s a Sales Manager at The St. Regis Rome, one of Italy’s most iconic luxury hotels.

His first role at Marriott was as an intern at The Madrid EDITION hotel, near the Prado museum. Soon after that, Luca got his first full-time position at Marriott as a Sales Executive at the historic Alfonso XIII, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Seville, and now he’s excited to be back in his home country, in the eternal city’s first luxury hotel opened in 1894.

His Marriott journey has already taken him across countries, brands, and some of Europe’s most iconic hotels. But his rapid rise didn’t happen by chance. Along the way, Luca treated every interaction as an opportunity to learn, sought out mentors, and spent time building relationships. One of those connections would eventually open the door to his current role at The St. Regis Rome, showing how curiosity, courage and genuine relationships can shape a career in ways you never could have planned.

How would you describe your career journey so far?

I would describe it in three words: Passionate, open-minded and grateful. Passionate, because I’m doing something I always wanted to do. Since I was 12, I wanted to work in hospitality, so I have to say that I achieved what was my dream job. Open-minded, because I think in our industry, if you want to grow, especially when you’re young, you have to be very open-minded and humble. You always have to learn from everyone that surrounds you.

The third word would be grateful, because I’m 26 years old and I’m a Sales Manager at one of the most iconic properties in Italy and the world. I’m definitely grateful for the career I’ve had so far and I’m very excited to see what’s next.

How did you land on such an iconic property?

Before joining the St. Regis Rome team, I was in Spain at Alfonso XIII Hotel in Seville. During one of my business trips, I had the chance to meet the previous Sales Director at the St. Regis. He got to know me and we worked together. After two months, he reached out to me with this amazing opportunity to stay with the Marriott family and experience a different brand. I was super excited about coming back to Italy and joining The St. Regis Rome team.

What advice would you give someone hoping to follow a similar career path?

You have to find a mentor, a person who is going to help you grow. Find a place where you can express yourself and then stay true to your own path and what you want to achieve. Always be humble. Take the best from the people around you and grow with that.

What’s something your role has taught you that has made you better, both professionally and personally?

As Sales Manager, my role is about building meaningful relationships with travel agencies and advisors around the world, so that their clients can come to Rome and experience one of the city’s most iconic addresses.

I feel incredibly lucky because my job gives me the opportunity to travel the world, meet people from different cultures, and constantly discover new perspectives. I always say that every time I sit at a table with an advisor, I walk away having learned something new. Every conversation, every destination, and every person I meet enriches me, not only professionally, but personally too. And I think that is one of the most beautiful parts of what we do in hospitality: we connect people, cultures, and stories.

But the role goes far beyond sales. It’s also about creating connections within the hotel, working closely with every department, and bringing back what I learn from the world outside. At the same time, wherever I travel, I have the privilege of carrying a piece of The St. Regis Rome with me — sharing its story, its legacy, and the passion of the people who make this property so special.

What’s it like building your career at a hotel with more than a century of history behind it?

When you work here, you’re not simply representing a hotel. You’re representing a landmark of Rome and a property that has helped shape the history of luxury hospitality.

We are surrounded by history every single day, but what inspires me most is knowing that we are also creating its next chapter. We are writing new stories, building new relationships, and continuing a legacy that started more than a century ago. I can’t think of a more iconic place to do that than The St. Regis Rome.
