Support from her leaders has been key to balancing both sides of the program. The hotel’s four-day work week has also created more space to enjoy life outside of work — whether that’s exploring Vancouver’s food scene, hiking nearby trails, or visiting the Gulf Islands. “It’s given me time during the week to get organized and have a productive life outside of work,” she says.
We asked Caitlin to share more about her experience, her Marriott journey, and her advice for others considering a career here.
How would you describe your experience as an associate?
My journey so far as an associate has been absolutely wonderful. I started my journey working as a Guest Experience Expert at the front desk. I then transitioned into my Voyage program, where I’ve been working as a Rooms Operations Manager. I’m very lucky — the team has been absolutely incredible in welcoming me, and I have great leaders and mentors as well.
What drew you to Marriott, and what keeps you motivated here?
What drew me to Marriott was definitely the size and how expansive the brand is. Having a brand with so many unique types of hotels is wonderful — each one provides a different experience. The team and the people I work with keep me motivated. Marriott has done an incredible job hiring associates who bring the brand to life. I’m excited for a year of growing my leadership skills in a program that allows me to do this.
Can you share more about your current role?
I’m a Rooms Operations Voyager at the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver and the DOUGLAS Autograph Collection. I work with different teams to deliver exceptional guest experiences while also learning the leadership side of hotel operations.
How have Marriott’s benefits and programs helped you?
With the Voyage program, I have coursework alongside on-site training. My property has been incredible in helping me find balance and giving me time to complete my school work. We’ve also just transitioned to a flex work week, so I work four days and I’m off three. That’s given me time to get organized and have a productive life outside of work.
What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
I love exploring Vancouver — whether it’s hiking, discovering the Gulf Islands, or checking out a new food spot in the city.
