Name: Tylah M.
Position: Human Resources Executive
Hotel: Perth Select Service Hotels
Dream destination: The Greek Islands, especially Skopelos. I have always wanted to spend a European Summer Island Hopping.
Drink or treat of choice: A Pink Gin with Soda or a Galah Cocktail from The Ritz-Carlton, Perth!
Tylah applied for a role in Marriott before she even graduated from college. Even though she had never really considered working in hospitality until then, nine months before graduation, she saw an ad on the university job board looking for a Human Resources Coordinator at The Westin Perth and didn’t hesitate to apply.
Why HR? Despite not having any direct experience in the field, at her first job as a Duty Manager in retail she had learned that she truly loved to work with people. “This is where I found my passion for working with people and knew it was something I wanted to create a career [around].”

What’s your best advice for high school or college students considering working at Marriott?
I would say don’t hesitate and just give it a go! If you see something that is interesting to you, apply. Marriott has so many opportunities to move between departments and hotels! You can cater their offerings to your proposed career pathway. Don’t think that because you are studying you can’t work. I found that working whilst studying allowed me to become more equipped for the workforce. And I was able to put more meaning and experience behind my studies.

What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
When I was announced as a Rising Star finalist for the Australian Hotel Association Accommodation Awards in 2024.
Do you remember a moment when you felt supported at Marriott?
IAt the start of the year, I was experiencing some emotionally difficult times outside of work which impacted my wellbeing. My team immediately picked up on the shift of emotions I was experiencing and came to support immediately. Whether it was offering me a coffee, letting me take the day off or even just asking if I was ok, everybody stepped in and supported me during a difficult time. This extended outside the HR team, but everybody was in the hotel. I felt extremely supported and safe at the hotel as the team made me realize it is ok to have a bad day. They supported me through the entire process and ensured I was alright.
And a moment when you felt like a part of a community at Marriott?
I recently completed a remote task force opportunity with Moxy Sydney Airport. I spent four weeks working from Perth but supporting their hotel with their payroll, recruitment, learning and development and more! At the end of my task force assignment, I received a heartfelt video from the senior leaders at Moxy Sydney who were all saying a massive thank you for all my work. I had never met these leaders, only talking to them through email but the video made me feel like they were standing next to me. This made me feel like I was in such a tight-knit community as I was being appreciated/thanked from the other side of Australia and was recognized for my hard work!
