Marriott Moves: How Associates From All Over the World are Making Fitness Fun

Some days, movement looks like a full-on 5K. Other days, it’s a quick stretch between meetings or a walk around the block before your next shift. This June, it all counts.

That’s the idea behind Marriott Moves, our invitation to associates around the world to make movement part of their everyday routine. This year, in celebration of Global Running Day, teams were encouraged to take part in TakeCare’s Sit Less, Move More challenge, working together toward a shared goal of 250,000 movement minutes throughout the month.

Associates all over the world took the challenge and they didn’t just reach it, they surpassed it ahead of time! Proudly logging more than 393,000 minutes with a week still to go.

We see it over and over, at Marriott, wellbeing is about taking care of the whole person. And one way we bring this to life is through TakeCare, our global wellbeing program designed to support associates’ physical, mental, and financial health. Through a combination of resources, local activations, and a global network of wellness champions, TakeCare helps create a culture where associates feel supported, energized, and able to thrive.

And the best part? No two teams are doing it the same way. From running routes that start right outside the hotel doors to playful competitions, stretching sessions and team workouts, associates are getting creative and making fitness feel less like a task and more like something to look forward to.

At the Barcelona EDITION, of course they turned the challenge into a fiesta (disco ball included). During Wellness Week, associates stepped into the Cabaret space for a one-hour Pilates class led by a Front Office colleague and TakeCare team member, swapping their usual routines for something a little more unexpected.

The energy felt playful and upbeat, but the focus stayed on feeling good, moving together, and taking a moment to reset. The team also offered fresh fruit for associates throughout the week and a shared start to the day, it became more than just a class, a reminder that wellbeing can be both intentional and fun.

At the JW Marriott Ankara, movement turned into something both energizing and grounding. To celebrate Global Running Day, a small team of associates headed out for a run around Eymir Lake, covering an impressive 44 kilometers together.

On Global Running Day, a small group of ambassadors at the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel, met at 7:30 in the morning for a run through the city, setting the tone for the day before most people had even had their first coffee.

After an hour of running together, they headed back to the hotel and were rewarded with fresh coffee and warm croissants straight from the bakery. In total, the group logged 360 minutes of movement, but what really stood out was the sense of balance, starting the day active, then slowing down to recharge together.

What started with a poster turned into something much bigger at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Abu Dhabi. Inspired by Marriott Moves, a gym instructor organized a 5K run and walk along the Corniche, just a short drive from the hotel, and the response was immediate.

Associates showed up with friends, families, even kids, turning the challenge into a shared experience that felt welcoming for everyone, especially those trying it for the first time. For many, it didn’t end there, the habit stuck, and evening walks have become part of their routine. A simple idea, turned into something people genuinely wanted to keep going.

Bright colors, big energy, and a shared sense of fun set the tone at The Westin Calgary, where associates celebrated Global Running Day with a retro-themed run. The morning felt more like a celebration than a workout, with the team showing up ready to move, laugh, and start the day together. By the end, they had logged an incredible 1,620 minutes of movement, a reminder that when fitness feels fun, showing up is the easiest part.
