Name: Evan B.
Position: Bartender and Food and Beverage Supervisor
Hotel: Delta Hotels Fredericton
Have you had a moment where something meant to be temporary turns into something you don’t want to leave? For Evan, that moment happened pretty quickly. What started as a summer job while studying at university turned into a role where he’s growing, learning, and building a future around what he loves most.
Based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Evan is balancing a full-time university schedule with a full-time role as a Bartender and Food and Beverage Supervisor at the Delta Hotels Fredericton. It’s a lot. But it’s also exactly what makes his story resonate.
“I’ve worked in quite a few different roles [within Food and beverage] in a short amount of time and I’ve enjoyed every second of it,” Evan shares. “I wake up excited every morning to come into work. This place feels like a home. know this is where I want to work.”
At Marriott, he’s found a rhythm that works, and leaders who support both his career and the ambitions he’s pursuing outside of work.
How would you describe what you do?
I’ve grown into a unique role where I’m bartending and also a food and beverage supervisor with a pretty specific focus on the beverage side of operations. That’s really where my interests sit and the leadership has allowed me to take on more responsibility to gain some experience with that side of things.
What are you passionate about outside of work?
A lot of what I enjoy doing outside of work actually carries over into what I’m doing every day. My two biggest passions are mixology and wine. I spend a lot of my free time learning about wine and hopefully working towards a sommelier certification eventually.

How has Marriott supported your work-life balance?
Being a full-time university student, while also holding a full-time job, really teaches you a lot about what work life balance is and how important it is. All the leaders here at the hotel have been so fantastic in supporting me through that and accommodating me whenever I need time off last minute and working around my hectic school schedule.

What makes the Maritimes the right place for you?
For me, it’s more of a case of the Maritimes chose me because I was born here and I’ve lived here my whole life. I grew up about an hour outside of Fredericton and when it came time to go to university, it just made sense to come here and go to the University of New Brunswick because it was so close to home. I don’t have any desire to leave. It’s kind of the perfect mix of city life and being so close to the country, the outdoors, where I grew up and really enjoy spending time.
