Name: Zach J.
Position: Dual Director of Finance
Hotels: Delta Hotels Beausejour and Delta Hotels Prince Edward
Beekeeper, farmer, dad, and Dual Director of Finance. That’s how Zack introduces himself without really trying to. Leading the finance team for two Delta Hotels by Marriott properties in the Maritimes, his days might include budgets, forecasts, and strategic planning, but they also include tending to 80,000 bees, feeding chickens, caring for pigs, and spending unhurried time with his family.
That balance is exactly why Zach chose the Maritimes. For him, life in this part of Canada, between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, offers something that’s hard to find elsewhere. “The Maritimes offers this blend of professional opportunity and personal peace. I really wanted to build a meaningful career, but not at the expense of time with family or my well-being. And here, here I found both,” Zach says. “The pace of life allows you to actually breathe, and there’s this deep connection to nature that I really value. For me it wasn’t just about finding a job, it was about finding a lifestyle that aligns with my values, and the Maritimes gives me that.”

As a Dual Director of Finance, what does your role look like?
I support both hotels as a finance leader and a strategic business partner. I work closely with our general managers and executive teams on budgets, long-range planning, and financial decisions that guide the business throughout the year and help us maximize revenue opportunities.
What drew you to working at Marriott in the Maritimes?
I was drawn to Prince Edward Island because there’s something truly special about life here. The pace is a little slower, the people are incredibly warm and welcoming, and there’s a strong sense of community that you don’t always find elsewhere.

How does that show up in your work?
Hospitality here feels like more than a job. It’s part of everyday life. Working at the hotel allows me to be part of the community, not just commute through it. And of course, it helps that you’re always within 15 kilometers of a beach.
What’s your secret to balancing it all?
One of the biggest ways Marriott supported my work-life balance and personal well-being is through its flexible work arrangement program. I can’t say enough about the people I work with. My accounting team, the other hotel leaders are all very supportive of me and my family. And through this Flex work program, I was able to take advantage of a four-day work week. It was incredibly beneficial to my personal schedule. It gave me an extra day to spend quality time with my wife and kids, and to work on the farm.

What do you enjoy most about farm life?
Getting away from computer screens and working with my hands. Planting, fixing, building, exploring, and operating heavy machinery. It’s all very healing for me. It resets my brain, helps me come back to work more focused, more grounded, and just overall more balanced. I think this is all because of the support I get through a flexible work-life balance. I recognize it doesn’t just make me a better employee, but a better person.
What would you say to someone considering working in the Maritimes?
You can build a career you’re proud of and still have time for the life that matters to you.
