From work permits to paid leave, here’s a roundup of useful employment information for anyone who’s looking to launch a career with Marriott in Senegal. Our work benefits are there to make sure our staff are happy and supported in their work. Although they can vary depending on location and job type, this article gives you the basics of what’s on offer when you become part of the Marriott team.
Work Permits & Visas in Senegal
Applicants who are part of the Economic Community of West African States simply need to go to their embassy and apply for a consular card. All expatriate workers at Marriott in Senegal need a residence permit to be able to start work with us. Our HR teams can help out with getting the necessary permit.
Accommodation in Senegal
We provide free, fully furnished accommodation for our expatriate employees, so they can settle in from the moment they arrive.
Senegal Language Requirements
We request a good level of English from our prospective applicants. Senegal is a French-speaking country, so a good understanding of French is a big plus for candidates, too.
Employee Health Insurance in Senegal
As standard, we provide health cover via a local insurer called NSIA for all of our expat associates in Senegal. Talk to the hiring team for more about this.
Transport to Work in Senegal
Some managers are eligible for a fuel allowance or company car, and some of our associates can take a company-provided shuttle to get to and from work.
Employee pensions in Senegal
Our local associates are enrolled in a pension plan. We don’t currently offer a retirement plan for expatriate workers.
Employee Discounts & Perks
Marriott staff get employee discounts on food and drink, as well as stays, with Explore by Marriott Bonvoy. Staff in specific hotels may also get other discounts, too.
Service Charges & Tips in Senegal
We don’t automatically add service charges to our bills, but staff can earn tips during their shifts. Any cash tips need to be declared to managers, who will then distribute them among the relevant workers.
Bonuses For Associates in Senegal
Some Marriott staff in Senegal may be able to earn an annual bonus, which is taxable.
Annual Leave in Senegal
Senegal staff get allocated annual leave days calculated using their status. Local staff can earn two days of annual leave per month, adding up to 24 days per year. Our expatriate associates can earn five days of leave per month, adding up to 60 days per year.
Sick Leave Policy for Marriott Senegal
If you become ill, you’ll need to liaise with your manager and get a medical certificate from a doctor. If your sick leave lasts longer than 15 days, you’ll need to be seen by our in-house doctor before returning to work. The amount of paid sick leave you can get may be specific to your job role and band.
Maternity & Paternity Leave
Eligible associates can get parental leave to prepare for and welcome their newborn. Maternity leave in Senegal is usually 14 weeks (six weeks before the birth, and eight weeks after). In the case of Caesarean delivery, the mother may be entitled to a further 21 days of leave. Fathers get three days of leave to celebrate the birth of their child.
Relocation Support to Senegal
We don’t generally supply a relocation package for new starters at Marriott in Senegal.
Salary Payment
Salaries are decided according to the band the job role sits in, and our trainees receive the minimum basic salary. Marriott Senegal pays salaries towards the end of each month.
Pay For Night Shifts & Overtime
Depending on the job location and local labour guidelines, some associates are eligible for a higher rate of pay for night-shift work. Some hotels may also allow associates to work overtime hours, which may be claimed back as time off.
Reference Checks For Applicants in Senegal
We usually ask for at least one reference from a former employer or institute of education. We may request more detailed references for manager-level jobs.
Medical Screening in Senegal
Before starting with us, new associates in Senegal go through a mandatory medical check with our in-house doctor. The doctor then issues a certificate to prove the candidate is fit to work.
On-Duty Meals
Free on-duty meals are provided for our hotel associates in Senegal in our onsite staff restaurant.
Uniform Allowance Policy
We pay for uniforms for all relevant roles at Marriott. We’ll provide these to you in your size in good time for your first day with us.
