Just like in nearby Spain, you’ll need to show a European passport or another relevant work permit to show you have permission to work in Portugal.

The languages you’ll need in Portugal will depend on the property you’re working in and the specific duties of your role. A solid understanding of Portuguese and English is usually a good start for our Portuguese properties. If you’re working in a guest-facing role, you may need a certain level of proficiency to be offered the role.

Health Insurance For Employees in Portugal
Associates are not generally eligible for health insurance in Portugal, but it may come with some roles depending on the position and department.
Transport to Work in Portugal
Some Marriott hotels put on transport to get employees to work and back. In some remote locations, there may be private transportation during high season. You can find out more about this at the interview stage.
Pensions For Associates in Portugal
Eligible associates can pay into the local pension scheme in Portugal. Ask us at interview if you’d like more pension details.
Portugal Employee Discounts & Perks
All Marriott associates can use our Explore by Marriott Bonvoy discounts. Other discounts and perks vary from hotel to hotel. For example, some of our associates in Portugal also get discounts on fitness sessions or on goods in local shops.
Service Charges & Tips in Portugal
Some of our Portuguese hotels include service charges on their bills and our associates are eligible to earn customer tips.
Bonuses in Portugal
Some positions in Portugal may be included in the bonus scheme.
Annual Leave in Portugal
Marriott employees in Portugal can take annual leave days to relax and recharge. The number of days may differ depending on where you work and your position.
Sick Leave Policy for Marriott Portugal

Maternity & Paternity Leave
Eligible associates in Portugal will be able to access a maternity or paternity leave allowance.

We may help with relocation support for particular roles, but we decide this on an individual basis. In general, if you’re moving for a role you’ll need to organise the move and cover any costs.

When you apply to work for us in Portugal, we may ask for references from a previous employer or education institution.

We usually provide a free meal per shift for associates in our Portuguese hotels.
Portugal Uniform Allowance Policy
We generally supply uniforms for all operations associates. We may also provide uniforms for some admin or managerial positions, depending on the hotel.
Ways of Working in Portugal
Our associates in operations roles usually work shifts. Our admin staff generally work Monday to Friday, but some positions have weekend shifts.
Flexible & Remote Working
We don’t currently offer compressed hours or remote work, apart from some individual cases for administrative roles.
Full & Part-Time Working
Our full-time associates work 40 hours a week. We may also offer some part-time and seasonal opportunities.
