A career with Marriott comes with a selection of staff benefits. We’ll confirm the precise terms along with any offers of employment, but this post lists out the general benefits you can expect when you’re part of one of our welcoming Netherlands hotel teams. We’ve also included other useful points, such as which languages we use for work and how many references we’re likely to ask for.
Work Permits & Visas in the Netherlands
To work for Marriott in the Netherlands, you’ll need to have a valid European passport, or a valid Dutch work permit if you’re a non-EU candidate. We don’t typically support sponsorship for visas.
Accommodation in the Netherlands
Staff in the Netherlands are responsible for finding their own living quarters, but you can ask your interviewers for area tips.
Language Requirements in the Netherlands
To work in our Dutch hotels, you’ll generally need to be able to converse and write in English, whatever position you’re applying for. For jobs in certain departments, such as HR or Finance, you’ll also need to be able to speak and write in Dutch.
Transport to Work in the Netherlands
There is a travel allowance available for associates, but it varies between the hotels. The general allowance is between 19 cents and 23 cents per kilometre travelled. Some locations provide a card for use on public transport.
Pension Provision in the Netherlands
Pension payments for our Netherlands-based associates are automatically calculated based on salary.
Employee Discounts & Perks
On top of our Explore by Marriott Bonvoy discounts, associates in the Netherlands may also be eligible for other reductions. For example, staff at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel get free use of the gym, and 50% off meals in 18 other Amsterdam hotels from Monday to Thursday.
Service Charges & Tips in the Netherlands
Any tips earned are shared out among the associates who worked the shift together.
Bonuses in the Netherlands
Our Netherlands associates may be able to get performance-based bonuses. Note that these are taxed before being paid out.
Annual Leave
Like in our German hotels, our full-time associates in the Netherlands can get 25 days of annual leave each year.
Sick Leave Policy
Paid sick leave is available in the Netherlands, but associates don’t get paid on the very first sick day. They can then get between 90% and 95% of their salary for subsequent sick days. Your interviewers can provide more detail on sick leave allowance.
Relocation Support to the Netherlands
We don’t generally offer relocation support for new associates in the Netherlands, although we may be able to offer it for certain senior job roles. For other positions, we’re happy to help support new joiners with information about where they can look for accommodation. Ask us at the interview if you have any questions about this.
Salary Payment
We pay salaries monthly, usually around the 25th day of the month. We observe the local minimum wage requirements, which are recalculated twice a year. Our interns typically receive a salary of 750 euros per month based on a five-day working week.
Night Shift Pay at Marriott
We do usually pay a higher rate for night shifts, which is between 25% and 50% more than the standard rate.
Reference Checks For Applicants in the Netherlands
For manager-level positions and above we generally ask for three previous employment or educational references. For other associate posts, we usually request one reference as a minimum.
On-Duty Meals
All of our Dutch hotels have a staff canteen. It differs from location to location, but associates generally pay something towards their on-duty meals via their salary payments. Our interns eat for free.
Uniform Allowance Policy
If you’re hired for an operations role we’ll give you a uniform to wear. You’ll also be able to use our free onsite laundry service. Some of our hotels offer a clothing allowance of up to 50 euros a month for our office-based employees.
Ways of Working in the Netherlands
A normal shift is eight hours long, including a 24-minute break. Most of our office-based positions work a 9am to 5pm day. Associates record all of their hours, and any overtime hours worked can be taken as time off at a later point.
Flexible & Remote Working
Sometimes it’s possible to work a day from home, but we prefer all associates to work from the relevant hotel.
Full & Part-Time Working
We offer full-time and part-time contracts, depending on availability. We can offer casual contracts for students, which means they don’t have mandatory working hours and simply get paid for the hours they are able to work.
