Getting to a point in your career when you can look back and think “Little me would be proud” seems like a dream, right? Well, Nagypsy can say that after being promoted to Senior Pastry Chef at The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort, she is now living that dream.
“I am becoming the professional I dreamed of when I was a kid, and that makes me extremely proud.”
Before starting her Marriott journey in 2015, Nagypsy studied at Johnson and Wales University for Baking and Pastry Arts and Food Service Management with the best possible goals one can have in any career, company or field: learning and growing.

“Since I joined [Marriott], my goal has always been to get better at my tasks, grow professionally, and learn,” she says. “I have done it all and no matter how much time has passed, every day I get to improve and learn.”
That’s not to say it was easy — after all, they don’t call them growing pains for nothing. “This new role has been the biggest challenge in my career which has led to a significant professional and personal development,” Nagypsy admits. “I have improved my leadership skills which has helped take my team and myself to the next level. Marriott has been extremely supportive in my growth; with their support I have taken different classes that have helped me learn and evolve new techniques.”

A bigger role often comes with bigger or revised responsibilities, and for Nagypsy, it’s brought a whole new way of thinking! In her new role she oversees all pastry operations at The St. Regis Bal Harbour, one of the most luxurious oceanfront resorts in Miami Beach.
“This position requires me to think outside the box. I have grown from a supportive role to a leadership role. What I love most about this role is that I still have the opportunity to evolve and create new pastry items and inspire others.”

How does this new role align with who you’re striving to become at Marriott?
This new role at Marriott aligns directly with my aspirations of becoming an impactful leader. I want to inspire others who dream of being here one day. This new role will be my platform to share my knowledge and elevate the pastry program, which will contribute to the overall guest experience. Being a Senior Executive Pastry Chef is a key step towards becoming the professional I am striving to be at Marriott.
How has Marriott supported your growth?
Marriott has supported my growth by providing me with trainings, tools and amazing opportunities since day one. Working at Marriott has been like working with a life coach who truly supports your personal and professional growth. Marriott has encouraged me to embrace challenges and develop the confidence I have today. Their belief in nurturing talent and providing platforms for growth has truly empowered me to become the Senior Executive Pastry Chef I am striving to be.

What attracted you to want to work at Marriott instead of a traditional restaurant or bakery?
The opportunities. Marriott not only is a second home to me, but it is also a world full of opportunities for everyone. The amount of growth [that’s possible] both professionally and personally is endless.
What was your interview process like?
It was not easy but definitely very rewarding. Nothing worthy comes easy and my only tip to those candidates who are looking to grow in this industry is to keep going. You got this, and it will be worth it! Keep trying and keep applying because your chance to shine will come.

How has Marriott supported you as an artisan?
With infinite training opportunities and professional growth. Also, the number of great leaders who have been on my journey motivates me and inspires me to inspire others.
What’s your favorite recipe to make?
Macarons! I love how creative we can be when making these French cookies. The science and technique behind it, it’s just wow!

What inspires you, and when are you able to be your most creative self?
I can be my most creative self when I see challenges and new opportunities to shine. It makes me want to be better than yesterday and go the extra mile.
How have you used the Marriott Explore Rate?
I have used the Marriott Explore Rate to travel around Europe and within the United States. The number of benefits we get as Marriott associates is amazing! The fact that we can also share those benefits with family is like giving them the opportunity to enjoy the service we provide for our guests.
What else would you like people to know about you?
That I am extremely grateful for this amazing opportunity to share my story with others! I want to inspire others in the field to become their best version of themselves, and I am proud to say that I work with one of the best companies in the world.
