What does a Guest Environment Expert actually do?

It means I do a bit of everything. I clean guest rooms, I work in the laundry department, and on some days, I help in the lobby. I also do seamstress work for uniforms and repair cushions for the restaurant or back-of-house areas. Whatever needs to be done, I’m happy to help.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

I love that no two days are the same, and I like feeling useful in different ways.

And of living in Nova Scotia?

Nature is a huge inspiration for me. The sea, the gardens, the colors. Being near the ocean just fuels my creativity. It’s a beautiful place to live.

What first drew you to Marriott?

Growing up in Dartmouth, I always thought the hotel was such a beautiful property. I remember thinking, “What a nice place.”

What keeps you excited to come back each day?

It still feels special. I get to work in that nice place every day, and the team makes it even better. It really feels like a family.

What does a perfect day off look like for you?

Going to the fabric store. I love sewing, and I’ve been doing seamstress work since I was young. Touching different fabrics and imaging how they might come together into an outfit allows me to be creative! I also love spending time in the garden and getting inspired by the colors of the flowers.

How does Marriott support your work-life balance?

The flexibility [Marriott offers] really works for me. If I need time off, it’s easy to get it. I have personal days and vacation time to pursue my passions outside of work. It lets me be fully present at work and fully myself outside of it.

You’ve traveled across Canada. Why do the Maritimes always pull you back?

The sea always brings me back. There’s just something about it. There is a great quality of life here, it’s calm, and it’s beautiful.

What would you say to someone considering a career in the Maritimes?

You can build a career and a life you love here. You don’t have to choose between the two. Marriott makes you feel supported, valued, and like you belong.
