Name: Luca T.
Position: Sales Executive
Hotel: Alfonso XIII, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Seville
Dream destination: I have a lot. There are many nice places to discover!
Drink or treat of choice: As a true Italian it has to be a classic espresso.
Some kids dream of being an Olympic swimmer, some kids dream of being a breakdance influencer, and Luca dreamt of working in hospitality since he was a 12-year-old growing up in northern Italy.
“Maybe it’s because [me and family] traveled a lot,” says this Turin native who now works as a Sales Executive at the historic Alfonso XIII, A Luxury Collection Hotel, in Seville, Spain.
After attending a hospitality high school — yes, it’s a thing in Italy — Luca continued studying hospitality in Switzerland and then did a couple of internships in luxury hotels in Madrid, Spain.
His first role at Marriott was as an intern at The Madrid EDITION hotel, near the Prado museum. Soon after that, Luca got his first full-time position at Marriott as a Sales Executive in Seville where he mingles with clients and sales agents living and breathing (and selling!) the essence of the Alfonso XIII, A Luxury Collection Hotel, a historical landmark that makes Sevillians particularly proud of their heritage.

“This achievement feels like a reward for the dedication and clarity I’ve had since the age of 12, when I first set my sights on a career in the hospitality industry,” Luca says. “I understand that, while this is an accomplishment, it is only the beginning of my journey.”
Even though his family’s background is in fashion, and they didn’t initially take very well the news that Luca wanted to take a different route, after witnessing his passion and determination, they couldn’t help but to be proud of him. Also, the fact that his father has become a Marriott Explore Rate fan probably helped.
“Honestly, I’m doing something that I always wanted to do since I was twelve,” Luca says. “I feel really inspired by what I do.”

Why did you want to work at this hotel?
I chose a Luxury Collection hotel because I think nowadays, with globalization, it’s easy to lose the sense of place when you’re traveling. Everything looks the same. I believe that The Luxury Collection represents what modern travelers are seeking, especially my generation. We always try to find authentic and rare experiences and activities that deeply connect ourselves with the destination. So, I see myself reflected in the brand.
And now that you’re here, what’s your favorite thing about the job when it comes to work environment?
There is so much support. And I’m not just talking about the support between each other, stepping in when needed. It is also about showing interest and valuing what others do.
I feel that true team spirit involves recognizing the contribution of your colleagues and celebrating their success and engaging with them at work. This helps to create an environment where everyone feels appreciated and motivated or inspired, which is even better.
Speaking of motivation, what has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
The proudest moment of my career so far was securing my first and current position as a Sales Executive. This achievement feels like a reward for the dedication and clarity I’ve had since the age of 12, when I first set my sights on a career in the hospitality industry. With humility and focus, I reached this milestone, understanding that while this is an accomplishment, it is only the beginning of my journey. I see this not just as a job, but as the starting point of a career filled with potential and opportunities to grow.
What is a good tip or advice for young people who might want a job like yours?
Believe in your goals and take deliberate steps to achieve them. Remember, we have control over our lives—I often say that we should be the drivers, not passengers, of our own journey. Surround yourself with those who are willing to share their knowledge and experience. Listen to yourself and stay true to your path without being influenced by others’ opinions. Be patient and selective; with humility, don’t settle for the first opportunity that comes your way. Instead, strive for what truly aligns with your passions and aspirations.
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is the daily opportunity to connect with people from all over the world. The human interactions I experience, whether through traveling to different countries or engaging with agents and clients from diverse cultures, are incredibly rewarding. Each conversation offers a new perspective and teaches me something valuable, contributing not only to my professional development but also to my personal growth. These connections are the cornerstone of our industry—it’s the human element that truly sets us apart.
In an increasingly digital world, I believe that personal relationships remain the key differentiator. A genuine connection can turn a challenging situation into a memorable experience and can transform a simple transaction into a long-lasting partnership. For me, the ability to influence someone’s journey in a positive way and to learn from every interaction is what makes my job so fulfilling and unique.
What is something that has surprised you about working at Marriott?
One of the most surprising aspects of working here is just how interconnected it truly is. Despite the vast number of hotels and the large community of professionals involved, Marriott feels surprisingly close-knit. We may come from different places and work in diverse settings, but we’re all united by common values and a shared passion for hospitality. This sense of unity and mutual respect creates a supportive network where relationships are easily formed and opportunities for collaboration are abundant. It’s remarkable how quickly you realize that connections made in one part of the world can have a ripple effect across the company.
Have you used the Explore Rate?
I have not used it that much yet but actually this question should be answered by my father who so far has enjoyed the explore rate a lot!
