What has been challenging about moving into a leadership role at Marriott?

The difficult part was making the decision to take the next step and apply to a new position. It was a challenge to work on the areas of opportunity I had to get better at to be ready for the role. I didn’t get it on the first attempt, but the second time I applied for a management position, I used all my technical knowledge, together with my team-building skills, and that’s how I started. However, gaining the trust and credibility of my team and my managers was my priority.

What aspects of Marriott’s culture have you found most beneficial in developing your leadership skills?

The care between associates. Teamwork is something that has always distinguished my department. The associates help each other, and they also work in other areas than their own knowing that everyone can help others even when it’s not their job description. Also, equal opportunities are something that I love about Marriott because thanks to that, I have been able to make a career, and I have also seen my colleagues grow.
