Why Marriott?

I started working at Roy Rogers (the western‑themed restaurant chain) in a travel plaza as a high‑school job. At the time, I had a family member who worked for Marriott and was very successful, and that’s how my journey began.

How would you describe your leadership style?

I lead like a mom: with love, guidance, and support.

What is a lesson you’ve learned in this journey?

I worked my way up, job by job, and I learned to always put myself in other people’s shoes.

How do you inspire your team to deliver authentic hospitality every day?

I encourage them to be unique and think outside the box — to challenge themselves to do something no one else is doing yet. If it works, great. If not, try something else.

What is one smart risk you’ve taken in your career, and what did you learn from it?

Moving to Charlotte after spending 30 years in Philadelphia. You grow so much by moving: new city, new market. I regret not doing it sooner.

What’s one thing you’re most excited about for the future of hospitality and your hotel community?

The opportunity to operate your own ship as the captain, with support from regional and corporate partners, inspires leaders to be more inventive and creative.
