For Andres, what started as a job in Food & Beverage has evolved into what he calls “the best ride of my professional career.” Today, as Director of Operations for the Charlotte Marriott City Center, Andres leads teams across Rooms, Front Desk, Engineering, Loss Prevention, and Food & Beverage, helping them perform at their best while cultivating a strong culture. 

The secret (or one of them) to reaching that place in his career? Listening. “I always take feedback positively and see how it can create an impact on my career,” says Andres. “Early in my career, I understood that the path for growth is listening.”

What drew you to Marriott initially?

Early in my career, I worked in different fields, but I knew the hotel industry was where I wanted to build my career. A friend offered me an opportunity at Marriott that I couldn’t refuse. Once I joined, I learned how you can grow and all the different opportunities you have to build a successful career.

Now that you’re a leader, which of our Leadership Essentials resonates most with you?

Be Curious. This approach has always opened new opportunities and paths to my career, seeing different ways of continuing my education and seeking new knowledge, from certifications, trainings, to conferences. I always take every opportunity to keep pushing the boundaries of my career and learn as much as I can.

Speaking of pushing boundaries, what is a smart risk you have taken recently?

Applying for my current role. Sometimes we doubt ourselves because we do not know the path, but my advice is to trust the process. This company has amazing resources to help you achieve your goals.

What’s your motto when it comes to growth?

Never say no to a new opportunity. You never know what you can learn from it.
