“I feel like a hero every day,” Abhi says. “I’m working in one department and then I’m called to the next, always saving the day.” That flexibility began with the Marriott Voyage program, which brought him to Victoria through the Food and Beverage track. After completing the program, he stepped into his current role, gaining experience in every operational area of the hotel.
For Abhi, the opportunity to work anywhere in the world is a driving force. “I’ve always wanted to take ownership of the fact that I’ve lived in so many places and work in different Marriott hotels around the world,” he says. Marriott’s benefits and flexible work arrangements have also helped him stay healthy and energized — whether that’s through chiropractic care, massage therapy, or enjoying a three-day weekend every other week.
We asked Abhi to share more about his Marriott journey, his approach to leadership, and how cricket — his favorite sport — keeps him grounded.
How would you describe your experience as an associate?
I joined Marriott through the Food and Beverage Voyage program. I was 22 years old, working with people who had been here for over 25 years, and I learned so much from them. My experience has been full of variety — some days I’m in one department for a few hours, other times I’m in a department for months. It’s made me adaptable and given me relationships with associates across the hotel.
What drew you to Marriott, and what keeps you motivated here?
Marriott is the largest hotel company in the world, which means I can work anywhere. Having lived in 11 countries and attended seven schools, that’s important to me. I also appreciate how much the company values training and the guest experience from a psychological perspective — from communication skills to understanding body language and tone of voice.

Can you share more about your current role?
As Assistant Manager of Operations, I’m strategically placed in departments based on business needs or vacancies. I’m well-versed in daily operations across the hotel and my goal is to help every department thrive while maintaining strong guest and associate engagement.
How have Marriott’s benefits and programs helped you?
Marriott’s benefits are excellent. I can get chiropractic care, acupuncture, and discounted massage therapy, with Marriott covering the rest. The flexible work arrangement for salaried leaders gives me a three-day weekend every other week, which has been huge for recharging.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off?
I love playing cricket — Victoria has a wonderful cricket community. Staying active is important, so I also go to the gym. Outside of sports, I enjoy reading psychology books, playing video games, and spending time with my wife.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career at Marriott in Canada?
Take advantage of the opportunities to learn every part of the operation. Being adaptable not only helps the hotel succeed but also builds relationships and skills you’ll carry throughout your career.
