Tell us about your Marriott career journey.
My journey began in the most humble way—selling Bratwurst sausages while studying Commercial Cookery at Empyrean College in Fremantle, Perth. Everything changed when I was selected for an internship at The Ritz-Carlton, Perth. That opportunity was a defining moment in my life and career.
After completing my internship, I joined the hotel part-time as a Commis Chef and soon I was promoted to a full-time position, then to Demi Chef de Partie, and eventually to Chef de Partie. Each step in this journey helped me grow in confidence, skill, and purpose. I’ve had the privilege of working in different kitchen sections, applying best practices learned from mentors who have shaped the way I approach my craft. More than anything, I found a family in Marriott—a place where I truly belong.
Describe a moment you felt supported at Marriott.
One of the most emotional moments in my career was receiving a visa sponsorship from my hotel. It came at a critical juncture, just as my visa was about to expire—when uncertainty loomed over my future. In that moment, what could have been a major setback transformed into a positive affirmation of my journey.
It meant the world to know that my hard work and potential had not gone unnoticed. Knowing that my leaders believed in me strengthened my confidence, deepened my loyalty, and reminded me why I give my best every single day.
Describe your experience as a Marriott associate.
Being a Marriott associate is more than just a job—it’s a journey of learning, trust, and continuous growth. The company’s strong commitment to training and development has been instrumental in shaping my professional path. I’ve had the privilege of working across various kitchen sections, gaining invaluable hands-on experience while being mentored by some of the most talented professionals in the industry—including the highly respected Chef Brian Cole. Along the way, I have also had the joy of working with some of the best and most supportive colleagues, which has made each day fulfilling. Their camaraderie and guidance have sharpened my skills, elevated my performance, and empowered me to grow exponentially. Being entrusted to step up and lead has further strengthened my confidence and enhanced my leadership capabilities.
Beyond the kitchen, I especially grateful for the associate travel perks, which truly reflect Marriott’s People First philosophy. These benefits have allowed my family and me to experience the very hospitality we take pride in delivering to our guests. One of the most treasured moments was last year when my son visited me in Australia. Through the Explore program, we enjoyed a stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Perth and experienced the attention to detail that defines our brand.
Describe a moment you felt like a part of a community at Marriott.
That sense of community truly came to life when I was selected to support the APEC General Manager Conference in Bali over a year ago. I was part of a taskforce that catered to more than 600 Marriott leaders from across the continent and it was a surreal and unforgettable experience. I had the honor of working alongside incredible chefs from different properties and markets—we collaborated seamlessly, shared stories, and exchanged culinary techniques and ideas.
The event wasn’t without its challenges. Navigating a high-pressure environment, we had to manage both stress and communication hurdles with a diverse team. But those challenges pushed me to grow—improving my resilience, sharpening my problem-solving abilities, and reinforcing my capacity to work across cultures and personalities.
Beyond the growth and exposure, what stayed with me was the camaraderie. We bonded over our shared passion for food and hospitality, and the friendships we formed extended far beyond the event. That experience made me feel part of something much bigger—a global Marriott family.
How do you give back to your local community?
Outside of work, I enjoy staying connected with my neighbors and doing my part to keep our local community close-knit, clean, and welcoming. I regularly participate in neighborhood clean-up drives—clearing litter from nearby streets and public areas to create a more pleasant environment for everyone. I also share culinary tips with fellow residents and occasionally go for brisk walks in the park with them. I find joy in socializing and contributing to the community around me.
Ultimately, Marriott has taught me the value of building meaningful connections. It’s a principle I carry with me—not just in the workplace, but in every interaction I have beyond it.
Tell us more about your internship experience and key takeaways from the program.
My internship at The Ritz-Carlton, Perth—undertaken while I was still in culinary school—was truly a defining chapter in my journey. From day 1 I was immersed in a culture of excellence, working hand-in-hand with seasoned chefs who led not just with skill, but with integrity, discipline, and a big heart. They exemplified what it meant to uphold the highest standards—not only in culinary execution, but also in hygiene, workplace safety, professionalism, and teamwork. The internship laid the foundation for the work ethic and approach I carry with me today. Through that experience, I discovered the power of punctuality, the importance of presenting myself with pride, and the true value of collaboration. These lessons shaped me both personally and professionally—and they continue to guide me in my role as a chef each and every day.
Proudest moment of your career so far?
Being named the 5-Star Employee of the Year at the hotel in 2023 was a significant milestone in my career. More than just a title, it was a heartfelt recognition of the passion, commitment, and effort I bring to my role every day. I felt immensely proud of how far I have come and deeply grateful for the journey that has molded me.
From starting as an intern to now serving as a Chef de Partie, every step has been driven by purpose. I am proud of what I have achieved so far—and even more excited for what lies ahead. With each new opportunity, I am inspired to keep pushing my limits and continue contributing to the Marriott legacy.
