Below you’ll find a list of key employment information specifically for eligible UK-based employees. Please note that it’s not an exhaustive list, and eligibility for certain Marriott benefits and options may vary depending on where a job is based and your employment status.
UK Work Permits & Visas
To work for Marriott in the UK, you will need:
- A valid British passport, or
- Proof of your right to work in the UK, including a valid share code

Accommodation in the United Kingdom
Our UK-based associates are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. If you’re new to the location where a potential job is listed, feel free to ask your interviewers a bit about the area.
UK Language Requirements
To work in Marriott’s Front of House, Sales, Finance, HR, Management and Executive Committee roles, you’ll need a good level of written and spoken English. For other positions, such as Back of House, we ask for proficiency in basic conversational English to help you carry out your role.

Health Insurance For UK Associates
We offer health insurance plans for certain job roles starting at management level. You can talk to us at the interview about the options.
UK Employee Assistance Programme
The UK Employee Assistance Programme is a free and confidential programme available to all current UK Marriott associates, provided by Health Assured. It’s there to support you with all sorts of challenges, including financial advice, stress, depression, home concerns and health issues. It’s free for Marriott associates to call this service, and they are also entitled to up to six free counselling sessions.
Transport to Work in the UK
When you work for Marriott UK, you’ll need to arrange and pay for your own transport to and from work. Ask us at the interview if you would like more information about available transport options in the area.
Pension Provision For UK-Based Employees
Our pension scheme is open to all eligible associates and is designed to help you save for a more comfortable future. All eligible associates are automatically enrolled in The People’s Pension after they have worked with us for three months. Certain roles are also eligible for the Marriott UK Workplace ARC Pension Plan.
UK Employee Discounts & Rewards
Marriott associates worldwide have access to our fantastic Explore by Marriott Bonvoy discounts. Our UK associates also get certain additional discounts and perks after completing the probationary period, such as access to the Leisure Club and golf course, plus retail discounts from selected UK high street brands.
We also recognise our employees’ hard work with monthly awards and work anniversary celebrations.
Service Charges & Tips in the UK
Certain roles will be eligible for tips and service charges. We allocate these according to government guidelines, and the specifics of how they are distributed may vary between properties.
Bonuses for UK Associates
All of our management roles (excluding our graduate programme) are eligible for an annual bonus based on which band the position sits in. Additional quarterly performance-based bonuses are available for associates in sales and events roles. Note that bonuses are treated as taxable income in the UK, so they are subject to deductions.
Annual Leave in the UK
Our annual leave allowance helps our associates recharge and spend time with the important people in their lives. Leave is calculated on a pro-rata basis and excludes Bank Holidays. Same as for our Ireland-based staff, leave starts at 20 days a year for full-time contracts and increases the longer you work for us.
Workers on casual contracts are not eligible for annual leave, but they receive 12.1% of their hourly pay as their holiday allowance.
Sick Leave Policy For Marriott UK
If you’re unwell or injured and unable to work, you may be eligible for paid sick leave. If you’ve been unwell for more than seven consecutive days, you’ll need to provide a note from a healthcare professional and liaise with your manager.
Maternity, Paternity & Adoption Leave
Maternity & Adoption Leave Policy
All UK-based associates who take maternity or adoption leave are entitled to statutory UK maternity/adoption leave pay. Pregnant associates and those on adoption leave are entitled to 52 weeks of leave. For more information about statutory maternity and adoption leave visit www.gov.uk.
UK Paternity Leave Policy
UK-based associates who take paternity or paternity adoption leave are entitled to statutory UK paternity/adoption leave pay. Associates are eligible for paternity leave if they are one of the following:
- responsible for the child’s upbringing
- the biological father
- the mother’s husband or partner
They must also have been continuously employed with Marriott for 26 weeks by the end of the 15th week before the week in which the baby is due. During paternity leave, associates will receive all contractual benefits except for wages or salary.
Relocation Support to the United Kingdom
Certain senior job roles may be eligible for relocation support. Talk to us at the interview about whether this applies to the role you’re interested in.
Salary Payment
Salaries in the United Kingdom are paid monthly, typically on the third Friday of the month. You must have a UK bank account in your own name to be paid by us, plus a valid National Insurance Number. We comply with the UK’s minimum wage requirements for all associates. All internships are paid, apart from some university or school programs.
Pay for Night Shifts & Overtime
We don’t offer a different rate for overtime, but associates who work beyond their scheduled hours will continue to earn their contracted hourly rate. Night shift workers may be eligible for a higher rate of pay.
Reference Checks For Applicants in the UK
We will need to check references from previous employers or education institutions before offering you a role. As a standard, associate-level roles require one reference and management-level roles require three. Criminal background checks will also be completed for anyone who applies for a Finance, HR, Safety and Loss prevention, or Leisure Club role.
Medical Screening For Applicants in the UK
In some cases, associates may be asked to complete a medical screening questionnaire. We’ll keep this on file in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
If you hold a position that involves working at night, you will need to complete a Night Workers Medical Questionnaire from our occupational health provider once a year.
On-Duty Meals
We provide free on-duty meals for our UK hotel employees.
UK Uniform Allowance Policy
If your role requires a uniform, we’ll provide this for you. Non-uniformed associates can use the complimentary in-house laundry service.

Flexible & Remote Working
We offer some flexible and remote working, depending on the job role. We’ll review all flexible working requests fairly.
Full & Part-Time Working
We offer a range of contracts to suit different needs, including full-time, part-time and casual contracts.
